Saenger hosts hand-painted chair exhibition

The Saenger Theatre in downtown Hattiesburg is hosting an exhibition of "the best seats in town" through the end of October.

Twenty-one hand-painted chairs by area artists are on display in the Saenger's windows. The chairs will be sold during the Junior Auxiliary of Hattiesburg's 27th Annual Charity Ball, "Chair-ity for the Children," Nov. 12 at the Hattiesburg Lake Terrace Convention Center on U.S. 49 North.

"The Junior Auxiliary is so fortunate to have such wonderfully talented artists give of their time and talent to further our efforts," said Donna Bridges, chapter president. "In addition to the chairs, our silent auction will feature hundreds of items donated from all over the state. The proceeds will be re-invested back into the community to help others."

The whimsical chairs are functional art in a variety of forms.
"Original works of art are a first for our premier auction," said Vicki Taylor, Charity Ball co-chair. "Wyatt Waters' decoupage chair, Gail Pittman's rocking chair, Kym Garraway's whimsical chair, and Kim Howell Cox's chair adorned with iron finials and tassel are just a sample of what bidders will find in the auction. The chairs are a work of art and function. The only opportunity to bid on these one-of-a-kind chairs is at Charity Ball, so don't miss this event."
