Throw a chair at your school Principal

(Indianapolis) - A nine-year-old boy has been charged with battery after throwing a chair at his principal.

Marion County Juvenile Prosecutor Gary Chavers says the incident happened Tuesday afternoon at School 107 on the west side. According to a police report, the third grader was sent to Principal Jennifer Botts-Brown after throwing things in his classroom. He then allegedly threw a chair and hit the principal in the leg.

Police say when they arrived, the youngster was kicking the wall and an air conditioning unit. A school spokeswoman says the child had not taken his prescribed medicine yesterday.

The child has been released to his parents while the prosecutor decides whether to file the case.

Chair Exhibition

Saenger hosts hand-painted chair exhibition

The Saenger Theatre in downtown Hattiesburg is hosting an exhibition of "the best seats in town" through the end of October.

Twenty-one hand-painted chairs by area artists are on display in the Saenger's windows. The chairs will be sold during the Junior Auxiliary of Hattiesburg's 27th Annual Charity Ball, "Chair-ity for the Children," Nov. 12 at the Hattiesburg Lake Terrace Convention Center on U.S. 49 North.

"The Junior Auxiliary is so fortunate to have such wonderfully talented artists give of their time and talent to further our efforts," said Donna Bridges, chapter president. "In addition to the chairs, our silent auction will feature hundreds of items donated from all over the state. The proceeds will be re-invested back into the community to help others."

The whimsical chairs are functional art in a variety of forms.
"Original works of art are a first for our premier auction," said Vicki Taylor, Charity Ball co-chair. "Wyatt Waters' decoupage chair, Gail Pittman's rocking chair, Kym Garraway's whimsical chair, and Kim Howell Cox's chair adorned with iron finials and tassel are just a sample of what bidders will find in the auction. The chairs are a work of art and function. The only opportunity to bid on these one-of-a-kind chairs is at Charity Ball, so don't miss this event."

Used chairs

GILOCOURT, France The used-chair lot at the House of Drucker is a solitary refuge in a medieval village of sonorous church bells and thick stone walls, where the secrets of café society rest secure.

Dozens of black and beige trade-ins are stockpiled in pillars of scarred rattan next to red and saffron chairs tagged for repairs. A dusty claw-foot Monte Cristo bistro table crowds a petal-backed cane seat from the 1930s with a stern note attached warning to clean, but preserve.

These weathered castoffs could fill a history book with tales of love and literature, of art and armchair intrigue.

Drucker chaises longues went down with the Titanic. The company's petal-shaped chairs offered literary inspiration, or at least comfort, to Ernest Hemingway as he toiled on "The Sun Also Rises" in his favorite Parisian café, La Closerie des Lilas. A winged armchair stood in Claude Monet's studio at Giverny, while another was present at the signing of the treaty that ended World War I...

Man Sues Over Moved Casino Chair

Plumber Says He Suffered Brain Damage
POSTED: 10:34 am EDT October 5, 2004

BOSTON -- A Brewster, Mass., plumber lost in Las Vegas but he says it's the casino's fault.

Timothy Calkins claimed in a federal lawsuit that an employee at Harrah's Rio Casino "negligently and carelessly" stole his chair without his knowledge at the roulette tables.

It was August 2002. Calkins went to sit down, but the chair was gone. He fell backward and slammed his head on a gaming table behind him.

The Boston Herald reported that the 49-year-old claims he suffered brain damage, including short-term memory loss. He said he has headaches, back and neck pain. The lawsuit said the fall was caught on videotape. No dollar figure cited. A spokesman for Harrah's wouldn't comment.

Man jailed in theft of motorized chair

Eagle Staff Report, Updated October 4, 2004 6:31 AM
A Texas A&M student and his friend remained jailed Sunday after authorities said they found the pair driving a stolen motorized chair down the southwest ramp of Kyle Field during the Kansas State game.

Nathan Randall Arriens, a 19-year-old listed in A&M’s directory as a freshman, and Houston resident Matthew Lawrence Hogue, 20, were arrested after a University Police Department officer spotted the two riding the chair down the ramp, according to court documents.

A man reported his disabled wife’s chair stolen to an usher on the second level of Kyle Field. The chair is worth about $3,500. Hogue told authorities that they took the chair because Arriens was “too drunk to walk on his own,” court records state.

The two were charged with theft of an item between $1,500 and $20,000 and were charged with failing to properly identify themselves when asked by police.

(*) Very very sleepy

Foot wanted to get his feet wet with a surf tonight, but he's just too sleepy. Perhaps another time, when he's good and rested and feeling more interactive with the rest of his body.

Chair sends its greetings. The pillow is very squished flat yet again...
